INTERVIEW WITH TOM BRANDSTATER

1 - When did you play for Turlock Youth Football?
I played from the time I was 8 till I was 14

2 - For what teams?
the Vikings

3 - What position(s) did you play?
Middle linebacker to start but realized early that was not for me. could always throw and I was molded into a QB. I played a little defensive end as well

4 - Who were some of your coaches?
Mike Hibden and Mike Huber were most influential

5 - Do you have a favorite memory from the TYF days?
I loved the practices under the lights and then obviously the Gameday Saturdays. The other kids, parents, fans, and cheerleaders made the atmosphere so special. -some of my best memories are from youth football

6 - Where did you play high school football and what position(s)?
Turlock High. QB and strong safety

7 - How did TYF help prepare you for you high-school and college careers?
It gave me the foundation to help me succeed as I got older. Most importantly I learned to love the game, the preparation and everything that goes along with football

8 - Do you have any advice for current TYF players?
Have faith that you can become anyone you want to be. for example, I was usually the slowest guy on the field growing up and I hated it. but through hard work I became good at what I could control (throwing the ball accurately) and then the speed and rest came naturally. for some reason or another now I am fast and athletic. things I never thought I would be able to call myself. So each kid should have dreams and try to make them reality, bumps in the road are part of it but never take your eye off the target

9 - Do you have any advice for the parents of TYF players?
Be supportive and be there for your child. respect the game, coaches and other players
